Jetson Inc., the pioneering personal aviation company behind the Jetson ONE, today announced that Florida Polytechnic University has selected the Jetson ONE as what the University describes as the world’s first electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft intended for integration into law-enforcement operations.
The aircraft is registered with the on point N911FP registration (November -911- Florida Polytechnic) and dubbed ‘Astro’, referencing the iconic dog from the classic cartoon ‘The Jetsons’. The Jetson ONE will support the University’s exploration of how advanced air mobility can contribute to public safety, emergency response, education and applied aerospace research.
This first Law Enforcement / First Responder delivery represents an important expansion of the Jetson ONE beyond the recreational personal flight use case. It demonstrates how compact electric aircraft support professional and public-service applications.
Florida Polytechnic University required Part91 approval from the Federal Aviation Administration to integrate ‘Astro’ in its operations. The Jetson ONE itself, a PART103 recreational platform, has already been validated May 2025 with plenty of empty weight allowance to add mission critical equipment and the police light set. The University has identified potential uses that include monitoring the campus and surrounding areas, reaching locations that are difficult to access using conventional vehicles and rapidly delivering emergency supplies when required.
A Strategic Milestone for Jetson
“This is an important milestone in the execution of our strategic plan and in the broader public acceptance of personal electric aviation,” said Stéphan D’haene, Chief Executive Officer of Jetson Inc. “Our ambitions have always extended beyond recreational flying. With the Jetson ONE now flying on four continents and with more than 125 pilots trained, we are demonstrating that personal eVTOL technology is moving from an extraordinary idea into practical, real-world use.”
“The decision by Florida Polytechnic University to introduce Jetson ONE as a platform for public safety, research and education is a powerful validation of that progress. It brings together operational deployment, institutional acceptance and the development of future aviation talent. These are exactly the foundations required to establish an entirely new category of personal aviation.”
Nine Years from Vision to Real-World Operations
“Jetson’s journey started nine years ago with a clear but ambitious vision: to change the way we travel and to make the sky available to everyone,” said Tomasz Patan, Inventor, Founder and Chief Technology Officer at Jetson Inc. “At the time, many people still saw personal electric flight as science fiction. Today, we have an orderbook that is sold out for the next 3 years. Visionaries such as Palmer Luckey were amongst the first to not only order but since more than a year actively flying the Jetson ONE”
Exploring New Public-Safety Applications
The Florida Polytechnic University Police Department intends to explore how their ‘Astro’ could enhance situational awareness, provide access to areas that are difficult to reach with conventional vehicles and support the rapid delivery of emergency supplies. The University also plans to collaborate with regional law-enforcement agencies on potential emergency-response and public-safety operations “Advanced air mobility is a technology on the rise, and we can either choose to be proactive or reactive as it develops,” said Aaron Murray, Police Chief at Florida Polytechnic University. “We want to stay at the forefront of this technology and understand how it can be used to advance public safety and airspace safety altogether.”
The programme will allow public-safety professionals to gain practical experience with an emerging aircraft category while helping the University study how such aircraft could be incorporated responsibly into future operations.
A Flying Laboratory for Students and Researchers
Beyond its potential public-safety role, ‘Astro’ will serve as a hands-on learning and research platform for students and faculty at Florida Polytechnic University. The University introduced a new aerospace engineering degree in autumn 2026, providing students with an opportunity to study emerging flight technology in an operational campus environment.
Jetson Supporting the Growth of Advanced Air Mobility in Florida
The arrival of the Jetson ONE comes as advanced air mobility gains momentum in Florida, particularly in the central part of the state. Florida was selected to participate in the Federal Aviation Administration’s eVTOL and Advanced Air Mobility Integration Pilot Program. The specialized SunTrax facility in Auburndale, just 5 minutes away from the Polytechnic University has a dedicated advanced-air-mobility aerial test track.
Operating the Jetson ONE places Florida Polytechnic University at the intersection of public safety, aerospace engineering, applied research and emerging aviation operations. For Jetson Inc., it represents an important opportunity to help a public institution investigate how personal electric aircraft contributes to professional and community-focused missions.
Public appearance
The Jetson ONE ‘Astro’ has been delivered to the Florida Polytechnic University Police Department earlier this summer and pilot/officers are fully trained including Police Chief Aaron Murray himself. For those who would love to see this new Police vehicle in action, you can come and visit during the public days of UP.Summit, a special event hosted by UP.Partners at Kennedy Space Centre, Cape Canaveral on Sat/Sun Nov 7/8. https://up.partners/summit/
About the Jetson ONE
The Jetson ONE is a single-seat personal electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft developed by Jetson Inc. It is designed to make personal flight intuitive, engaging and accessible while creating a platform that can support the continued exploration of new operational applications.
Through simplified flight controls and electric propulsion, the Jetson ONE offers pilots a direct introduction to personal electric aviation. The aircraft is now operating across four continents, and more than 120 pilots have completed Jetson flight training. Other than Florida and California, US vehicles have been delivered to Texas, Utah, Ohio and Illinois and the company plans to deliver up to 50 vehicles this year.
