The History of eVTOL

Brief History on eVTOL In 2014, eVTOL was officially introduced by American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) as well as AHS International, even though the concept sprung up first in 2011. Before its official introduction, enthusiast had already begun thinking about or rather fantasizing on flying cars that are going to be affordable as well as safe.

Prototypes of flying cars were being formed by not only Glenn Curtis which was an aircraft innovator, but also Henry Ford, the famous automobile tycoon.

However, things finally took a turn when an engineer, Mark Moore from NASA published a white paper some years back. This white paper was more or less a spark which had all the bearing of changing the perception of how we would travel. With this new advanced vehicles, travelling would take a different turn, one that is innovative and capable of moving across cities. This innovation is what is being called eVTOL. So, what then is it?

What is eVTOL? eVTOLwhich stands for "electric vertical take-off and landing", is a new innovation that performs its operation in a similar fashion as a drone. This aircraft has the ability to not only move in any direction, but also can take off vertically. All this is made possible as a result of its omnidirectional fans.

3 Hurdles For eVTOL to Overcome

1. Safety: In order for more passengers to be willing to use it as a form of transportation, it has to keep an exemplary safety record. This means that there should be no lapses along its way.

2. Regulations: Before any autonomous vehicle would commence operations, it is expected that it must have scaled through legal regulation. This means that pilots would be mandated to tender in their certificates, flight plans would have to be developed as well as meeting certain requirements along the line.

3. Infrastructure: While we already have various airports, this vehicle would also need to have take-off as well as landing zones. In addition to that, it is expected that a designated place to charge these aircraft should also be made available. Plus, these available locations will have to be given the go ahead by the regulatory authorities.

Lastly, while everything is being done to ensure its smooth transition into the industry, it is being said that it would take a while until it begins operating fully at a commercial level.
